NY State Pilgrimage

Our Lady of Fatima Shrine

 October 19, 2024

The NY State Pilgrimage at Our Lady of Fatima Shrine will on Saturday, October 19, 2024.  The Mass at 11:30 AM will be followed by a Rosary Walk and Benediction.  Food and refreshments will be provided after the Benediction.   (Color Corps requested.  Color Corps should arrive by 10:45 AM.)

Fourth Degree.  Tony Angotti Memorial Brew Fest for the Vets will be held Friday August 9, 2024, from 5pm- 9pm at the St. Pius X Parish Center, 3010 Chili Ave. Rochester, NY 14624.  Admission is $50 per person. There will be many different types of beer, cider, spirits, non-alcoholic beverages, food and music. Any questions email brewfest4vets@gmail.com.

Color Corps.  The presence of the Knights of Columbus Color Corps was requested by Father Sean Paul Fleming, Cathedral Rector, for a Mass at the Saint Joseph's Cathedral on Sunday, July 14th, 2024, at 1030am. The Mass will be celebrating the visit of Saint Gianna Molla's daughter, Gianna Emanuela, M.D.  We will be processing in and processing out. We will assemble at 10am in the Chapel area to the left of the Altar as we are facing it and take the ramp up and straight ahead is the Chapel.

Also, Father Sean Paul would like two Knights Color Corps to attend to the Relic of Saint Gianna which will be available for veneration following the Mass.

The Knights of Columbus Color Corps will be a special part of the celebrations. We literally will be rolling out the Red Carpet. This is an opportunity for the Color Corps to show that we continue to be relevant and that our presence highlights the importance of the event, and adds to the dignity and solemnity of the occasion. Let’s have a good showing.

If you are attending, please contact Paul Sawaya: text or call at 716 401 4334 or email at rnsawaya@yahoo.com .

Pro-Life.  The annual St. Gianna Pregnancy Outreach Center Benefit Banquet was held April 25, 2024.

Day of Caring.  The Special Olympics Golf Tournament will be held again at Rizzo’s at Rothland Golf Course in Akron on Saturday, August 17, 2024.  The date is rapidly approaching and it’s very helpful to the committee for early submissions. We are in desperate need of donated prizes. Gently used golf items or any useful prizes, such as: beer, liquor, sport clothing, sport equipment, or items you have been meaning to regift are desperately needed.

Veterans.

Lottery Calendar.  Thank you for your support.

Wheelchairs.  This initiative provides aid to those who lack the freedom of mobility in our communities and around the world. Whether councils are presenting wheelchairs to local veterans and neighbors in need or donating funds to benefit those abroad, mobility brings with it independence and dignity. Obtained at discounted prices, these wheelchairs change the lives of their recipients. We are always in need of wheelchairs at $150.00 each.

Vocations.  Click here for a list of current seminarians.

Scholarships.  All applications for Scholarships and Grants are due April 1 at the New York State Council Offices. The applications are available by selecting SCHOLARSHIPS on the NYS website at www.newyorkknights.com. Current eighth graders entering Parochial High Schools are eligible for consideration.

Basketball Free Throw Competition.  The turnout this year was encouraging. After limited participation following the pandemic, we made great strides this past year. Let’s keep the ball rolling! Councils: Start making plans for the 2025 competition. Financial Secretaries: Order your kits early/now would be fine. FT Committee people: Take the online Safe Environment Program now to be covered.

Soccer Challenge Contest.  This is a fall event. Details will be available in the near future.  Be sure and take the online Safe Environment Program now to be covered.

Take Note: Anyone running any youth competitions or events need certification by taking the online “Safe Environment Program”/Supreme website. It only takes 45 minutes to complete, and the certification is good for two years.  The training is available here.

Coats for Kids.  The winter coat season should be brought up at your next council meetings. Secure funding.  Burlington will be providing a spreadsheet of coats available for this coming season sometime in July.  Please contact Joe Gnojek <st.vincentdepaulcouncil17883@gmail.com> if considering buying coats directly from Burlington.
